Multi-faceted singer Julia Michelle is an increasingly up-and-coming figure of the Australian folk scene, having come from a theatre, cover band, and choral background. With the ability to sing in many musical genres, she entertains audiences with her blend of ballads with a folky flavour, incorporating songs ranging from Celtic, to country, and traditional to contemporary. Julia's beautiful voice is her major calling card, and she accompanies herself on guitar and piano, as well as harp, fiddle, accordion, tin whistle, and mandolin.
Julia's folk album "Rathlin Island" is now complete, available for sale, and she will celebrate it with a launch event in May 2026.
Julia's singing roots stem from childhood through church music and performing arts schools. She trained in classical singing and performed in choirs including Monash University's "Monash Women's Choir" and "Viva Voce", and later in 'The Tudor Choristers'. She has performed in theatre productions such as 'The Wizard of Oz', 'Godspell', 'Pirates of Penzance', 'Jekyll and Hyde', 'Sweeney Todd', and 'The Mikado'.
Julia branched out as a working singer, performing with cover bands 'Abbasession' and 'The Uptown Girls', and held a residency as a yodeller and floor-show artist at 'The Cuckoo Restaurant' for 7 years. She has also been a featured soloist at The Toorak Uniting Church Choir and The Wesley Church Choir (Melbourne CBD). Currently, she sings with small theatre company "The Keyhole Cabaret" and is shaping her career as a folk artist around Melbourne.
Julia Michelle is launching her first folk album, Rathlin Island in May 2026.
